Hi mom! How are you? Good!? thats great! Did you know that this is my e- portfolio! I worked very hard this year! I also hope that I will do better. Some things I did really good on are my friendly letter and long jump. Some things I need to improve on are my multiplying skills and dividing fractions. In the time I still have at school I want to improve on my math. I want to do good on all of my exams and will study everyday starting today! Hope you like the work I do at school. Again, I have worked very hard this year. I hope you can see that!
Adult Response! Now you have to comment on my work! Please be nice! I have worked hard!
In looking at your work I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things:
I really enjoyed your enthusiasm on all the work that you have done.
I enjoyed your project on the respiratory system.
In the last 6 weeks of school I will help you reach your goals by:
I will help you by making sure that you spend more time studying.
My Subjects
Math
Term 1 math reflection
In term one I learned about Rate, Ratios, Proportion, Pythagorean Relationships. I learned how to compare quantites. When we were learning about Rate, Ratio, and Proportion, I learned that proportion means a relationship that says that two ratios or two rates are equal. In the Pythagorean unit was also interesting. I learned what the hypotenuse is. Math is fun when you understand what you are doing.
I did really well in volume and surface area. I really enjoyed doing work on it. One thing I really struggled on the percent unit. In percent unit, I learned to find the tax of a object, I also learned that in surface area you cannot forget the units. Next term, I hope to do better and to finish all of my homework! Also, I hope to do better for term 3. The difference between Surface area and Volume is that volume is the volume of a object and surface area is the surface of the object.
On my test I messed up on the last question; letter D.
The question was 11 x 6 / (-3)
I answered it right but I put the wrong signs. What I did:
11 x 6 = 66
66 / (-3) = +22 Correct Way:
11 x 6 = 66
66 / (-3) = -22
On the test I put positive but, now I know where I also messed up on in my homework book.

My Friendly Letter:
Dear Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones,
I am very sorry for snatching your pocketbook. All I wanted was for to get some blue suede shoes I saw in the store window. I am truly very sorry.
I really want to say that you’re a very kind woman. Thank you for feeding me lima beans, ham, cocoa, and of course some of your ten cent cake. I also wanted to thank you for the advice you said to me, like “Because shoes come by devilish ways like that will burn your feet.” One last thing is that I am very thankful for your compassion and for telling me to wash my face and comb my hair. Thank you, Ma’am for the money for those blue suede shoes in the window even though I didn’t need them at all.
All I want to say now is that I am very truly sorry for what I have done and I am really thankful for your empathy. You, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, are a very forgiving person.
Sincerely yours,
Roger.
P.S: That night, you changed my life forever.

First, I learned that the elements of a short story and also learned to idenify them in a story. Next, we learned the components to write in a friendly letter format. Then, we applied specific story details and wrote in the first person as if we were characters from the short story. Criteria:
Use proper friendly letter format referring to a letter frame
Compose a rough copy letter using specific details from the short story and write the letter from a perspective of one of the main characters in the short story
remeber to use apporpriate tone and audience for the the letter

Task: To create a represention of cro magnon life. Intent: We did this representation to learn the ways of life for cro magnon peoples. Criteria:
Here is my Iqbal chapter one response : Explore Response Novel Study-Iqbal Chapter One I have finished reading chapter one of the novel, Iqbal. This book was written by Francesco D’Adamo. The genre of the book falls into realistic fiction. In this book, the author has chosen not to put any illustrations because the he wants you to picture an image in your head. This book is written as a novel and Fatima is the narrator in this creative novel on child labor. This story is written in the eyes of the narrator Fatima. Fatima is a ten year old girl who works in a carpet factory in Pakistan. The author purpose in writing this text is to inform the reader about the issue child labor. I am reading this text because I would like to gain a deeper understanding on the ongoing issue of child employment. Child labor is a very important topic and is related to human rights. Everyone should also be aware of this ongoing issue. Some key lines that are worth remembering are “ I suspect many of us has stop dreaming.” I chose this line because I think dreaming is very important to everyone and I also think the line “ This is your debt, every line is a rupee, for every day you work.” I think this line is important because they need rupee’s to pay off their debt that’s on their slate. In order to be free from child employment, their slate has to be completely cleaned off. In chapter one, we met a girl named Fatima. She is a 10 year old girl that makes carpets to pay off her debt. Fatima is the protagonist in this chapter. We also met Hussian Khan, he is the master in this novel and he is also the antagonist in this novel. Some important words to remember are carpet, slate, rupee. I chose carpet because in the factory they make carpets to get rupee’s. Second, I chose slate. I thought this is a good word to remember because they need to clear off there slates. Lastly, I chose rupee because they need rupee’s to pay off there debt and to get out of forced labor. Some important places are Lahore, Pakistan, and factory. I chose Lahore Pakistan because child labor in Pakistan is very active compared to Canada. I also chose factory because that is were many forced child laborers work from dawn till dusk. This story is written as a novel, and the author has just numbered the chapters instead of naming them. I think it is so he doesn’t give anything away about the chapter. We went through some definitions because there are some hard words in the novel. I can relate to this chapter because I am a girl, and human, and that we should all be treated with respect and loyalty. This issue is going on throughout the world and people are in child labour and clearly they don’t deserve it. They should be going to school like you and me, and having a life that they deserve. One ah-ah I have is that I never knew numskulls are children who don’t work very well or are young people who are stubborn and don’t want to work. One question I have is “ why hasn’t anyone taken a chance and left to go find there families?” One connection I have is I have to work for my parents but I don’t get paid. My mother works to pay bills but, happily she doesn’t have to pay debts. She has earned money from working for the government.
Science
In science we are learning about the respiratory system and we are also learning about density. I have worked very hardon my power point. I hope you enjoy it!
We are also now doing shot put. we have also done high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
2 minutes to make a difference
My topic for two minutes is "poverty in Winnipeg." I have Krizna and Jennily in my group. I think this topic is important because I think that people, (both adult and child) don't want or deserve this. Young children like you and me deserve food, water, shelter, education, and especially LOVE and HOPE for there future. Some big questions I had were "why isn't the government doing anything to decrease the percent of people in poverty?" and " why do we stand at this percent? and how can a few children like us lower it? Some points that my group has researched about is that people who are in poverty die from diseases and HIV/AIDS. We also found out that this topic has been on longer than the 1900's. Right at this moment my group are at the point of trying to put the video together. We hope to have the video done for MAY 11TH, that way the teachers can comment on it and so they could tell us how to bump it up. This topic on poverty is very important no matter where you are. so as a human being we should all make a difference in the world today.
Other comments by me: I want to thank all the teachers! They have supported me through this grade eight adventure! I really do thank you all! (; They have helped me so far, and will hopefully continue! i am very excited! Thanks for everything! Love: Katerina Ferreira (:
